Abstract: Sample size is a crucial factor in experimental studies, especially in the surgery field. The quality and reliability of the results depend on the appropriated number of study subjects. In this article we evaluate the sample size in experimental studies published in high-impact factor surgical journals in 2020, focusing on studies with rats. We note that the sample size varies considerably. The number of groups also varied. In conclusion, the analysis of publications in high impact factor surgical journals revealed that many studies did not present clear information on sample size calculation and questionable sample size. It is essential that scientific journals demand transparency in this aspect.
