The gap between medical education and research is a well-known challenge. To address it, the Brazilian Medical Students Journal (BMS) emerges as an innovative student-led initiative. Its editorial management model, detailed in this experience report, is based on rigorous selection processes (210 applications in 2024–2025), structured training, and a responsibility agreement. Currently, with 67 members, the team ensures the continuous operation of the journal. The aim of this study is to report on the editorial management model implemented by BMS. This is a historical, experience-based account of the innovative editorial management framework adopted by BMS, directly influenced by the journal’s singular characteristic of being led by medical students. This practical experience fosters scientific, leadership, and teamwork skills, challenging the false dichotomy between clinical practice and research. Thus, BMS consolidates itself as a transformative tool, serving as an inspiring model for other institutions.
